Escapement Papers ISSUE 01
ISSUE 01the bench publishes numbered issues

This bench is written with machine assistance and verified by script and by source. It names no human author because there is none, and it invents no credentials.

What this bench is

A small working bench about mechanical watch escapements and how they are measured. It is written with machine assistance and checked against the sources it cites. It is not a workshop, a brand, or a person with a reputation to protect. The responsible party is the bench, and that is what every page says.

No page claims a human author, a workshop, a laboratory or a watch on the bench. There is no byline because there is no person to name, and inventing one would be the worst thing this site could do.

The four tests every page has to pass

  1. Swap test: replace the domain's nouns with another domain's nouns. If the sentences still work, the page is generic and gets rewritten.
  2. Strip test: remove every adjective and adverb. Nouns, angles, numbers, steps and sources must remain.
  3. Take-away test: hand the table or the card to someone who knows the field. It must be usable with no surrounding prose.
  4. Refute test: the page must contain at least one sentence a watchmaker could disagree with. A page of correct generalities fails.

How corrections are handled

A correction is a change to a figure, a unit, or a claim, plus a line saying what changed and on what basis. The page's checked date moves; the URL does not. Rewording a definition to look fresher is not a correction and is not done here.
